So, this summer we thought would be slow with a new baby in the house, but it turns out a new baby does not really slow things down that much at all. With our back to school shopping done and curriculum ordered for the fall we know that summer will be gone before we know it.
During July we got to spend some special time with family. Grandpa and Grandma T. came up the middle of July to celebrate Grace and Gabe's birthdays. Jesse, Grace, Dassah, and Gabe got to go camping with them. Asher and I joined for the campfire and the beach, but missed out on most of the mosquitoes and the tenting. I made a s'more with fresh raspberries in it and it was awesome! We spent all day Saturday in the lake and it was wonderful! Alas, I forgot my camera.
Just this past weekend we were treated to the water park in Otsego by my parents to celebrate all of the summer birthdays...which is about 1/2 of us. The kids had a blast and the adults did, too. I am still a fish with my little fishes following my lead:) So fun to watch the littles enjoy the water and just hang out. We had a supper feast in Mom and Dad's hotel room which included potato salad which I was so craving. A perfect summer salad. I was either holding Asher or in the water, so once again weak on the photos. I am waiting for Alicia to return from Haiti to snag some of her pics.
This past 2 weeks have been filled with swim lessons and then reading Misty of Chincoteague in the afternoons before naps. We finished the book today! The boys are sleeping now and the girls are reading. I should be cleaning, but here I am typing. Hopefully it will be cool enough to take the littles to Jesse's softball game tonight. His team made it to tournament play. We gave Gabe a glove and ball for his birthday and he can't wait to "play" tonight while he watches Daddy. He also got a tractor/trailer from G n G and a skid loader (with tracks...which is very important to this 3 year old) from Papa and Nana. I add this because he is all boy and every morning he wakes up and wants to dig in the dirt or run around bases. He picks out every skid loader and tractor as we drive to church or to swim. His eyes are always scanning for a ball field or some giant piece of equipment...can you tell I am enjoying my son and I am learning more about such things than I ever thought I would.
Oh, and as long as I am rambling...Jesse is in the progress of building a sandbox for the kids. Just need to add sand. He put rock around the rest of our house this weekend. He is also working on another repairable. And our garden is growing. I think every sunflower seed we planted grew and then some leftovers from last year. The squash bugs did get to our zucchini plants. So disappointed. But not before I made up a yummy zucchini lasagna, which I cannot get enough of. Hoping to save the acorn squash. And the green peppers are coming in like crazy. My best year ever. I always struggle with those.. Enjoyed the wonderful bulk fruit Nana picked up for us this year. And was able to get some of it in the freezer before we ate it all. Lost a couple of laying hens. Bought 12 more which could be layers or eaters depending on what we choose. Grace made a bird feeder and the kids have enjoyed watching for birds...me, too.
Asher is beginning to stir...so I must sign off.
